The winter resort of Arachova, at an altitude of 968 meters, was founded during the heyday of Frankish rule by the then feudal lord de Nesle, who united many settlements in order to better exploit and control the area. Another element that encouraged the creation of a wider settlement at this point, were the mild winds and natural protection from snow and frost. The history of the area begins around 1200 BC when, on the west side of today’s Arachova, in the area Anemoreia (of Homeric reports) the first settlements are presented. On the west side there was the settlement of Kyparissos, which is disputed by historians, who claim that the city of Yampolis existed there. Anemoreia and Kyparissos participated in the Trojan War with Epistrofos and Schedias as leaders.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Another legend states that, above today’s Arachova, in Liakoura, the highest peak of Parnassos (2457m), stood the ark of Deucalion and Pyrra who gave birth to the Greek, the ancestor of the Greeks. Historians and travelers report that Arachova in the 16th and 17th centuries, during Turkish rule, had 250-300 Greek families and only one Turk, the Kotzabas of the region. It was set on fire by the Turks in 1803-1804 during the eleven disputes between thieves and boatmen. The Battle of Arachova is also famous, where Georgios Karaiskakis stripped the Turkalvans’ army naked. A point that also shows the active participation of the Arachovites in the Greek Revolution. Arachova was liberated in 1828 by Dimitrios Ypsilantis, whose first concern was the establishment of a school.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t

Initialement, l'Horloge historique. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit au d\u00e9but du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle comme clocher de l'\u00e9glise m\u00e9tropolitaine. En 1870, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9moli par le tremblement de terre catastrophique qui a frapp\u00e9 la r\u00e9gion et d\u00e9truit des maisons. Comme en 1944 qui fut d\u00e9truite par les hostilit\u00e9s de l'occupant allemand. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 restaur\u00e9 en 1966 aux frais personnels de l'abb\u00e9 du Saint Monast\u00e8re Saint-Luc. Le rocher qui est construit est appel\u00e9 par les habitants Tyrias, car il servait de r\u00e9frig\u00e9rateur pour stocker les produits laitiers. C'\u00e9tait aussi l'\u00e9tape pour les Delalis de la r\u00e9gion qui diffusaient les nouvelles du village. Sa beaut\u00e9 se r\u00e9v\u00e8le aux heures du soir dont l'illumination est une occasion unique pour des photos souvenirs.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Un autre monument qui occupe une position pro\u00e9minente au sommet du village est l'\u00e9glise d'Agios Georgios. Qui est aussi le saint patron de la r\u00e9gion. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 construite en 1833 dans le style d'une basilique \u00e0 trois nefs \u00e0 toit crois\u00e9. Cette attraction particuli\u00e8re du village est compl\u00e9t\u00e9e par la d\u00e9coration de la cour avec des tuiles en relief \u00e0 l'arachovite tiss\u00e9es par des artisans locaux. Le point historique le plus important du village est peut-\u00eatre le h\u00e9ros de Karaiskakis \u00e0 l'Exode occidental. Le chef des Grecs se dresse sur 300 rochers, autant que les t\u00eates des Turcs qu'il a demand\u00e9es apr\u00e8s sa victoire \u00e0 la bataille d'Arachova. Des \u00e9v\u00e9nements annuels ainsi que des d\u00e9fil\u00e9s de la r\u00e9gion sont organis\u00e9s dans ce monument les jours de f\u00eates nationales.<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t

Tourism in Arachova reached its zenith with the establishment of the ski resort. In 1967, the first lifts were installed by the French company Pechiney “Aluminum of Greece” at Fterolakka. It was inaugurated seven years later in December 1974 in Gerontovrachos. Modernization and beautification works of the facilities are constantly carried out and since then it is the first choice of winter tourists. Finally, guests of the ski resort will be able to enjoy the view and the warm atmosphere of the chalet reminiscent of the French Alps. But before the erection of the ski resort, Arachova was a village that people knew from the archeological site that existed just 10km away. Arachova was favored by the proximity to the brothers and experienced a huge tourist boom with the use of the Oracle. Hordes of tourists arrive every year and it is a first class opportunity to see up close the ancient Greek history that is generously offered.<\/p>\n
